Communication Apprehension
-
The number one fear among people is public speaking, so know you’re not alone.
-
Apprehension leads to bodily experiences such as “butterflies”, cold or sweaty palms, dry mouth,
and racing heart rate.
-
These body responses are caused by stress. Which can lead to certain behaviors such as,
-
Withdrawal, you may clam up and refuse to speak.
-
Disruption, inability to make fluent oral presentations.
-
Overcommunication, dominating social situations by over-talking.
-
The only way to promote effective group speaking or for some “one-on-one” speaking is to work to
overcome the stressful event.
